This time they’re taking no prisoners……. Do we even need to ask you if you want a night’s sleep in one of the comfiest beds in London? Experience a stay to write about (in our case literally) in one of the capital’s best hotels, The Great Scotland Yard Hotel.
As a stickler for the details, I thought I might have found more elements to pick at, but the team at The Great Scotland yard Hotel has left next to nothing left for me to critique.
As soon as you approach the Great Scotland Yard Hotel, you will feel the stature and presence of this elegant hotel. The doorway arch reaches almost two stories high, and the royal teal colour double door entryway sets the scene for your glamorous stay at one of London’s finest lodgings. I had to take a moment to admire the structure of this remarkable building, as well as ponder its most historic past! Wondering who else had entered through this grand archway, all on the hunt for London’s rascals and misdemeanor makers.
The lounge area in the hotel lobby features structural masterpieces, including an oversized black wooden chair that combines as a sculpture of a rhino’s head! This sculpture sits in a room lined with a row of circular mirrors at eye level that reminds you of a cell peep hole, but obviously on a much grander scale. The Great Scotland Yard Hotel leaves no detail unturned, from the sausage dog pillows to the details carved into the ceiling.
Even the lift was a feature too, with bespoke doggy corner handles and champagne coloured stone floor.
Although this building has been standing for decades, the interior is modern and up to date. The hotel plays up to the history and quirks of the building while providing all the mod cons and interior of a 5* luxury hotel.
I would recommend checking out the hotel bar 40 Elephants. The atmosphere was on point, and the background was cute and set the scene nicely, pointing out the scandal of this notorious crime syndicate! Who’d have thought, this one time infamous gang would adorn the walls of a luxury hotel cocktail bar! We definitely recommend the current collaboration with Tanqueray (we did sample all of them!)
The first thing you notice and gravitate towards is the ultra-comfy bed. The double bed is complete with cloud-like pillows and duvet for the best night’s sleep. As I mentioned, they leave no detail untouched and ensure the sheet has perfectly neat hospital corners and is positioned directly under soft, warm ceiling lights. In addition, blackout curtains have been installed to ensure that you can rest up well no matter what your sleep schedule is like.
Behind the darker grey bedhead is a subtle grey wallpaper. Continuing with the minimalistic decor is a duck egg blue wall with an arch leading to a decent bathroom and walk-in shower with great water pressure.
As with most great hotel rooms, there is a little nook in the corner with tea and coffee, because as Brits, we know the importance of starting a day with a warm cup of ‘Rosie Lee’. This refreshments corner is complete with a Nespresso coffee machine for freshly brewed coffee at the click of a button. There is also a small marble table with a comfy dining chair, allowing you to gaze out to the balcony through the glass door as you mull over the day ahead.
There is also a smart HDTV with satellite channels above a fireplace, so you have the option to enjoy a cute movie night in after a long day out and about. What we loved most was the remote control that you download to your smartphone ! V- Covid safe. The fireplace even had a realistic smoke effect which was a lovely touch.
The Great Scotland Yard Hotel is located on the Great Scotland Yard road, just a moment away from the River Thames and a short walk from Covent Garden.
This super central location is perfect for a visit into the capital city as you can experience the history of London and soak in the busy atmosphere. You are also only a few minutes walk from the Embankment and Charing Cross tube stations which means getting around the city is easy and fast. This location is central enough that you can walk to most of the touristy spots in town, or if you want to travel further afield or just avoid the rainy weather (which let’s face it, is pretty common in the UK) you can hop on and off public transport or ask the hotel to arrange a taxi for you.
Overall I would recommend the Great Scotland Yard Hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay in the heart of London. Everything was perfect, from the attentive staff to the best night’s sleep to the super central location. So it is no surprise that this luxury Hotel has over 220 5* excellent reviews on Trip Advisor.
